Ready and fit to play the tournament
ECM Libra Capital Sdn Bhd executive director Franklin Tan says tennis has a spillover effect on children to pick up the sport.

KUALA LUMPUR: ECM Libra Capital Sdn Bhd executive director Franklin Tan hopes his experience in competing at social tournaments will make an impression in the CEO-Celebrity Charity Tennis 2008, to be held at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 14.

Franklin, who is an avid sportsman, has been playing tennis regularly since he was 18.

The 40-year-old has competed in several social tournaments, mainly organised by the Tropicana Golf & Country Club.

"I love tennis. In a recent tournament, I managed to reach the final. My involvement in sports started at a young age and besides tennis, I still play badminton and do running when time permits," he said here yesterday.

"I'm fit as a fiddle and prepared for the event. My company (ECM Libra) encourages its staff to balance work with a bit of play. We are encouraged to play tennis every Monday at the NTC."
The event is being held in conjunction with the ECM Libra Foundation and Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia Junior Tennis Team Championship 2008.

The junior tournament, to be held from Dec 13 to 20, is funded by ECM Libra Foundation while AirAsia and Tune Hotels are among the main sponsors.

"Tennis is a great way to raise funds for charity.

"It can have a spillover effect on children to pick up the sport. We need to promote sport, especially tennis, to them," added Franklin.

The objective of the event is to raise funds for the NSTP Charity Fund. Those interested can call 03-20569487.
