Dato' Ab. Halim retired from KPMG Malaysia in October 2001, a firm he joined in 1977 and had his early accounting training in both Malaysia and United States of America. He was made partner of the firm in 1985. At the time of his retirement, he was the partner in charge of the Assurance and Financial Advisory Services Divisions of the firm and was also looking after the Secured e-Commerce Practice of the firm.
1992 to 1994 - Public Service Division, Prime Minister Department
He is currently the President of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and is Chairman of its Education and Training Committee and Executive Committee. He is Malaysia's representative on the Education Committee of the International Federation of Accountants and Chairman of its Qualifying Examination Committee. Dato' Ab. Halim is also a Council Member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants and a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Taxation.
